Despite Gov’t Shutdown, Members of Congress Still Get Paid. Rep. Zeldin Instructs House to Withhold His Pay Until Gov’t Reopens
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (NY-1) sent a letter to Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives Phil Kiko directing him to withhold his pay until the federal government is funded. Despite a lapse in appropriations and the current government shutdown, Members of Congress still receive a salary.
“It's crazy to me that Members of Congress get paid while military service members do not.” Rep. Zeldin said. “I just told the House Chief Administrative Officer to withhold my pay until the government reopens.”
