Over 30k Additional N95s & 100k 3-Ply Surgical Masks Delivered to Suffolk County
PATCHOGUE, NY - This past Saturday evening, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the bipartisan Coronavirus Task Force, pleaded for urgent assistance from across America with securing desperately needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Suffolk County. Earlier that night, Congressman Zeldin had been informed by county officials that Suffolk County’s stockpile of PPE was out of surgical masks, regular sized N95 masks, gowns, face shields and body bags.
An offer was immediately locked in place with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone’s office to deliver 150,000 surgical masks within 24 hours, which were delivered this past Sunday. This same supplier has since delivered an additional 100,000 3-ply surgical masks.
This past Sunday evening, President Trump announced that the White House would send 200,000 N95 masks to Suffolk County at the request of Congressman Zeldin. However, the White House ended up delivering 351,200 N95 masks: 251,200 for Suffolk County and 100,000 for Northwell Hospitals west of Suffolk, a delivery which far exceeded the President’s Sunday promise.
Today, the federal government delivered over 30,000 additional N95 masks for local front line workers assisting with the fight against coronavirus. This delivery, in addition to the N95 masks delivered by the federal government earlier this week, came at no cost to the county government.
“This latest delivery of urgently needed PPE to Suffolk County is continued good news for not only our local healthcare professionals, but also our first responders, law enforcement, and others working on the front lines to protect our communities during this outbreak,” said Congressman Zeldin. “When it comes to battling coronavirus, we are all one team, and I am proud to stand side by side with partners from all levels of government in working to ensure Suffolk County has the resources it needs.”
