Press Release

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) announced the completion of beach renourishment along the ocean side of Dune Road in Westhampton Beach ahead of the project’s contracted completion day of March 9, 2020. This project provides for a protective beach berm and dune, providing protection for Westhampton Beach west of Groin 15 and affected mainland communities of Moriches Bay.

On September 30, 2019, the renourishment contract for the project was awarded to Weeks Marine at a cost of $22.3 million, which is 65% federally funded and 35% state funded, and work relocating an estimated 1.2 million cubic yards of sand, began on November 25, 2019

“Time and time again, the Army Corps of Engineers has delivered for NY-1, despite those who have sought to shamefully attack them for political gain,” said Congressman Zeldin. ”Under the leadership of New York Commander Colonel Thomas Asbery, they have once again delivered another well-executed project not just on time, but ahead of schedule. This latest beach renourishment in Westhampton Beach is great news for those along the barrier island and the communities that line Moriches Bay, providing a protective berm and dune.”
