Rep. Zeldin Applauds Reversal of Obama Admin Anti-Israel Policy
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Co-Chair of the House Republican Israel Caucus, issued the following statement applauding Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s announcement to reverse the Obama Administration’s anti-Israel efforts that took place just before President Trump took office:
“On the way out of the door, the Obama Administration stabbed our great ally Israel in the back, enabling the passage of UN Security Council Resolution 2334, an anti-Israel, anti-Jewish attempt to delegitimize Israel and ethnically cleanse East Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria of the Jewish people. Adding insult to injury, Secretary Kerry also gave a long rambling speech that took aim at the Israeli government, vilifying the Israeli people while letting the Palestinian Authority off clean, harming our relationship with Israel while emboldening its enemies.
“In an otherwise dangerous region of our world, Israel has stood as a beacon of hope and freedom despite being surrounded by enemies who deny their very right to exist. The United States has no greater ally and strategic partner than Israel, and, finally, Israel now has a clearer understanding of U.S. policy in the region. In addition to today’s announcement, from moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem to recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, I applaud President Trump, Secretary Pompeo, and the entire Administration for their continued efforts to stand with our greatest ally.”
