Rep. Zeldin Statement on Biden Administration Inviting UN Racism Envoy to the United States
PATCHOGUE, NY - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement in response to the Biden Administration’s decision to invite the United Nations (UN) racism envoy, despite a shoddy record on condemning human rights violations globally, to criticize the United States on the world stage:
“The Biden Administration is flat out wrong to tell Americans, especially our heroic law enforcement officers, that their values and way of life need to be evaluated and judged by far-left UN bureaucrats. The UN Human Rights Council routinely looks the other way and refuses to condemn atrocities committed by the likes of China, Russia, Iran and other human rights abusers throughout the world. This move by President Biden and Secretary Blinken invites this feckless body to accuse the United States of being a racist nation.
“Americans know that the United States is still a symbol of freedom, democracy and hope that people around the world look to as their Shining City on a Hill. We saw this just days ago when oppressed Cubans waved American flags in the streets as they protested their authoritarian government and cried out for liberty. Sadly, it appears that President Biden and Secretary Blinken need to be reminded that the United States doesn’t import its morals from the UN. Groveling to the UN’s so-called ‘Human Rights Council’ will make our nation look weak and play into the hands of our anti-democratic adversaries such as China and Russia.”
