Rep. Zeldin Statement on Violent Antisemitism in New York
PATCHOGUE, NY - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) issued the following statement regarding the violent attacks by Hamas sympathizers targeting Jews in New York and other locations across the United States:
“As the Jewish state faced thousands of rocket attacks from the terrorist organization and Iranian proxy Hamas over the past 11 days, Jewish people throughout the US have been subject to violent attacks and blatant antisemitism.
“The horrifying scene in Manhattan yesterday, where Hamas sympathizers resorted to violence, burned Israeli flags, displayed blatant antisemitism and threw fireworks into crowds of protesters, was not an isolated incident. Jewish diners at a Los Angeles restaurant this week were sought out and attacked by a pro-Palestinian caravan, synagogues are routinely vandalized, and reports of violence and antisemitism are rising sharply in the United States and across Europe.
“Sadly, we have also seen Democratic leadership in Congress look the other way at this behavior as members of their party stoke these flames. This anti-Jewish hatred needs to be singularly and unequivocally identified, called out, and eradicated in all forms in the US and around the world. Israel has the right to defend itself from the acts of terror perpetuated by its hostile neighbors, and Jewish people everywhere have the right to live and worship freely, without fear of harassment or violence.”
