Rep. Zeldin to Support Legislation Combating Asian American Hate on House Floor Today
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) will vote in favor of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act (S. 937), legislation to address the rise in crimes and violence against the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community, which is being considered on the House Floor later today. S. 937 includes language from the Jabara-Heyer NO HATE Act (H.R. 2383), of which Congressman Zeldin is a cosponsor.
“The continued violence against New York’s incredible AAPI community is disgusting, wholly un-American and must be condemned and combatted at every turn. Every American deserves freedom, economic opportunity, and safety without fear of the hatred that has become a daily occurrence on New York streets,” said Congressman Zeldin. “This bipartisan legislation takes real concrete steps to combat this hate by empowering state and local governments to improve reporting and strengthen the flow of information from local law enforcement agencies. We must bring the perpetrators of these disgusting crimes to justice, and this legislation helps give us the tools to do so.”
