Rep. Zeldin's Request to Criminally Investigate Health Republic Sent to FBI by Justice Department
Washington, DC – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), announced today that his request to criminally investigate the collapse of Health Republic of New York has been sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
On December 7, 2015, Congressman Zeldin sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, calling for a criminal investigation into the creation, operation and demise of Health Republic of New York. On February 17, 2016, the DOJ responded to the Congressman in writing that the request has been sent to the FBI. Congressman Zeldin said, “I have been calling for a criminal investigation into the creation, operation and demise of Health Republic of New York. After sending a formal request to the Department of Justice, I just received word back that my request has been sent to the FBI. There have been reports that Health Republic may have filed false financial reports. Physicians, hospitals and pharmacies are owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in reimbursable expenses and over 200,000 individuals and businesses in New York lost insurance coverage unexpectedly, including 11,000 in my home county of Suffolk. It's important that this case is reviewed to determine if any wrongdoing took place so that there is justice and accountability.”
