Suffolk County Receives 500,000 Additional Face Coverings From Federal Govt for Vulnerable Populations
PATCHOGUE, NY - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), member of the bipartisan White House Opening Up America Again Congressional Group and bipartisan Congressional Coronavirus Task Force, announced an additional 500,000 face coverings have been delivered to Suffolk County from the federal government to be distributed to vulnerable populations, such as older Long Islanders.
“Our communities’ older Long Islanders are especially vulnerable during the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus, and helping ensure they stay safe and healthy will not only save lives, but minimize pressure on our communities’ healthcare system,” said Congressman Zeldin. “Every level of government continues to work together in a non-partisan way to deliver the PPE Long Island needs to combat the spread of coronavirus using every means possible.”
Earlier this month, Congressman Zeldin was informed by county officials that Suffolk County’s stockpile of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was out of surgical masks, regular sized n95 masks, gowns, face shields and body bags. Since then, Congressman Zeldin has worked with County Executive Steve Bellone, the White House and suppliers to deliver over 1.2 million pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for local health care and other front line workers.
