August 9, 2021 Press Release
It is not up to doctors and European judges to determine that this young girl has no right to continue fighting for her life. Alta Fixsler’s parents are Hasidic and the sanctity of life is at the heart of their deeply held religious convictions. Decisions about Alta’s future should be determined by the people who know and love her the most. If British doctors and hospitals refuse to provide Alta the care she needs, her family should not be stopped from traveling to the United States or Israel, where further medical options can be explored and the sanctity of her life and religious liberty will be valued. While transferring Alta will be complicated and dangerous, the stubbornness and inhumanity of the hospital and the courts have left no other options in the efforts to save this young girl’s life.

Since taking office, I have been committed to helping the Bytyqi family receive the justice they have long deserved. Despite many past promises made by Serbian officials to resolve the case of this state-sponsored murder, justice still hasn’t been served. This resolution notes that progress with this investigation should remain a significant factor in determining the further development of US-Serbian relations. The Bytyqi brothers gave their lives to fight injustice; now we must return the favor and deliver justice for their family.

New York’s seniors tragically and unnecessarily died as a result of Governor Cuomo’s incompetent and inhumane Executive Order requiring nursing homes to accept COVID-19 patients. The governor then engaged in blatant corruption to cover up the true consequences of his failed policy and had the audacity to sign onto an absurd $5.1 million self-congratulatory book deal praising his COVID ‘leadership’, all while New Yorkers were grieving and clamoring for answers. The families and loved ones of the victims of Governor Cuomo’s failed leadership deserve transparency, accountability and the truth about the lengths of the Cuomo administration’s cover up and corruption. The Department of Justice has now chosen to willfully participate in the effort to deny the public answers and accountability. Adding this to the book deal and Emmy Award, the DOJ’s decision is yet another gift to a corrupt governor, turning a blind eye to the facts, the victims and the public interest.

The Second Amendment and the right to self defense are not reserved for only the elite few deemed worthy by government officials. To address rising crime, we need to support law enforcement more, not less, reverse cashless bail, keep qualified immunity, and enact a Law Enforcement Bill of Rights. Unilaterally imposing more restrictions on law-abiding citizens' ability to defend themselves is not the answer.
